My name is María Sanchiz and I am a Spanish fashion designer born in 1996 in Elche, Alicante.
I am a curious and ambitious person and I love learning new things. When I discovered what is behind the meat industry and I looked more into how it works, I decided to stop consuming animal products. A year ago I wanted to go one step further, and make my mark by trying to improve the industry.
So, after getting a Degree in Fashion Design at Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, a Master’s degree in Design and new technologies in the footwear sector at INESCOP and UA, a Master’s degree in Business Administration at UEMC and a Master’s degree in E-Commerce creation at ThePowerMBA, I set up my own fashion brand named D13C STUDIO in 2020.

In 2021 I won 6 financial and advertising awards by various companies in the 10th start-up incubation program organized by the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) and the Santander Bank.

The main problem in the current market is the scarce variety of sustainable and cruelty free products when it comes to footwear. The majority of established brands focus primarily on the design, not taking comfort into account, or vice versa, they offer comfort but do not offer great design. This means forgoing fashion when choosing to lead a more ethical and sustainable lifestyle. We want to move away from the well known fast fashion industry, and offer timeless unique pieces with a minimalist design, and a longer life cycle that is better for the environment.
D13C STUDIO is a high quality and no-gender footwear and accessories brand made with sustainable, biodegradable and bio-based materials that do not come from animal origin. “All the materials are certified and meet the demanding European standars”. Materials made up of corn and apple are used for the upper of the boots and the bags. The midsole and the lining of the products are made from high-quality ecofriendly material and the insole is made up of recycled plastic bottles.
The t-shirts are made of 100% organic cotton. Also, the packaging, as the business cards are made of 100% recycled cardboard. The entire process is ethically made in Spain and our Factory is using 85% solar energy along with the efficient use of water and offers a respectful and secure work environment.
One of my most ambitious objectives is to create a circular economy. Our products could be returned free of charge at the end of their life cycle and we would take care of the recycling process. This would allow us to reduce waste and have less of an environmental impact, while at the same time giving the customer who returns used products a discount for their next purchase.
